Texas Tech (@1.72) vs Arizona (@2.15)

Our Prediction:

Texas Tech will win

Texas Tech – Arizona Match Prediction | 14-09-2019 22:30

The unquestioned leader of the unit, Brooks has All-Big 12 potential and a few gifted playmakers in the secondary and on the d-line to help him out in Adrian Frye and Broderick Washington, respectively. In a post-Dakota Allen world, Jordyn Brooks holds the fate of the defense in his hands at the middle linebacker spot. If these three players are successful, theyll keep Tech in some games they should otherwise be losing, but it all starts with that crucial middle linebacker position. The good news for Tech fans is that Brooks was statistically more productive than Allen last year.

That means theyll need to win four out of the seasons final nine games to reach bowl-eligibility. With underwhelming offensive line play and a slew of early season injuries, I dont think Tech will get that much-needed win against Arizona. Who are the four most likely teams they have a chance to beat? Id say the Red Raiders have a...

Coaches Poll

As much as I want the Matt Wells era to begin with a postseason appearance, I just dont see it happening. I believe Wells is the right man to bring the Red Raiders back to relevance in the Big 12, I just think hes a year or two away. I think Tech finishes 5-7 in year one, with some bright spots to build on for the future.

The game last year did not feel competitive, and it was the only time in Big 12 play I felt like the Wildcats physically controlled a conference foe. Yes, the programs are completely different now, but there's obviously a great deal of roster carry over. Well, the Wildcats handled Tech in Manhattan a year ago. It's not crazy to project the Wildcats would have a better team than Tech again - specific for this match-up - in 2019.

The overreaction was validated last week when the Eagles lost at home to North Dakota State 13-40. Lets not get too carried away with the Red Raiders blowout win over FCS foe Eastern Washington. I know they obliterated the spread, but I have to feel that was more a lapse by the books. Eastern Washington had gone 12-2 last year with their only losses coming in OT at North Dakota State and by 2-points in the semifinals against Youngstown State.

Texas Tech Games & Results

The 46-year old from South Carolina is hoping the team will buy in to what theyre selling and establish a new culture of winning in Lubbock in the same way Chris Beard has galvanized the basketball program. Former Utah State coach Matt Wells and his crew have worked tirelessly to implement their ideals, values and strategies in a short window of time.

However, last season was a bitter disappointment as they finished with a 5-7 record which featured a five-game losing streak to end the season. Overall, there were a lot of young players who found significant playing time which will be valuable for the future. That collapse cost the Red Raiders a shot at a bowl game and Kliff Kingsbury his job.

Texas Tech vs. Arizona State Game Preview

Nic Shimonek threw for 384 yards and 3 scores in their opener. Offensively this team is going to put up points and thats with replacing a Top 10 pick in Patrick Mahomes. The thing is, they are not going to be as dynamic and still have their fair share of concerns with their defense. One that has allowed 500 or more yards and 40 or more points in each of the last 3 seasons.

This kid is the real deal, he just needs to stay healthy. There hasnt been a quarterback Tech has really rallied around since Patrick Mahomes in 2016, but Alan Bowman is generating a lot of hype after an impressive freshman season. I also think a big change is that we actually have some certainty about and confidence in who will be taking snaps under center this season. I think the overwhelming opinion favors the latter. Was it a fluke, or have we found the quarterback of the future?
