Our Prediction:

Slovakia will win

Slovakia – Austria Match Prediction | 14-09-2019 14:30

The last match between these two teams is the only one that has any significance since the previous H2H matches were played a way too long time ago to serve as any clue. And in that last clash, Slovakia was victorious with 2-0, but the form of the two teams has changed significantly since then, and this time around Hungary is the host of the match. So even though we are in for an affair without a clear favourite, after looking into the recent form and results, I believe that the hosts have a slight edge over the visitors and that they will ultimately come out triumphant.

This has set back the nation to 4th place in the standings and they have fallen six points behind the leaders. They are at least scoring goals though and this could bode well for this friendly encounter with Slovakia. Austrias World Cup chances have taken a massive hit with back to back losses in their group to Serbia and Republic of Ireland.

However proceed with caution; these two wins did come at home. They will be high on confidence with two wins over Lithuania and Scotland, in those games they kept clean sheets on both occasions and scored 7 goals. Slovakia have won 2 and lost 2 from their group which also features England and are in 3rd place just two points behind Slovenia for an automatic qualification place. This two game winning run put a halt to their 3 losses in a row.

Slovakia

After that, they had amazing results with the wins over Croatia (2-1), Azerbaijan (1-3) and most recently Wales (1-0), which makes them the current favourite for keeping the top place. Hungary has had great results in their qualifier campaign so far after 4 matches played they are in the top spot with 9 points, 3 more than the second-placed opponents that they are facing once again. They kicked off their campaign not so well with a game against Slovakia, back in March, and it finished with Slovakia being triumphant with 2-0. Since we saw them net 6 goals in their last 4 matches, and considering the fact that they will have the home ground advantage working for them, I expect to see them score again. Moreover, they are on a 3 game winning streak and they will give their best to add one more win to it.

Especially interesting is the match they played against Azerbaijan, where they scored as many as 5 goals while conceding just 1 as the visitors. On the other hand, even though they will try their best to secure their appearance at the Championship, it less likely that they will go home with a victory. All those records go to prove that they wont be such an easy opponent for the hosts and that they will most likely be able to scare them with at least one goal. They recorded 2 wins and 1 loss while scoring 7 goals and allowing 2. The visitors are in quite a good position after three matches, they are second with 6 points.

The Ukrainians failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals as well, with the team suffering a heartbreaking 2-0 loss to Croatia in their last group game and, no doubt, the hosts are low on confidence ahead of the visit of Slovakia. A man to watch in the home team will be Borussia Dortmund ace Andriy Yarmolenko, but we predict that the two teams are going to play out a draw in Fridays friendly. Despite finishing their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign in second place in Group F Slovakia eventually failed to make it to the play-offs. Jan Kozak is still in charge of the team and his men are definitely capable of making life difficult for Ukraine in Fridays football match at Arena Lviv. The Slovaks were more than unfortunate not to book their place in the play-offs, but life goes on, and they are now fully focused on the qualifiers for EURO 2020.

Slovakia currently have quite a few players plying their trade in some of Europes top sides, with Marek Hamsik, Martin Skrtel and Juraj Kucka clearly the leaders of the national team at the moment, but they do struggle in some areas and are not exactly world beaters just yet. Under Vladimir Weiss and Jan Kozak, Slovakia have become a tough not to crack, relying on rock-solid back line and swift counter-attacks, and they even gave Spain a tough time during the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Head to Head H/A Same HT

Their fixture against Israel ended with a scoreline of 4-2, while the Poland tie saw a lone goal taking their hopes of at least one point. They have not yet posted a point on the board losing both their ties so far. Austria needs to deliver in this game, or else they risk setting themselves some huge challenges in the last stages of the competition.

Striker Adam Nemec got on the scoresheet for the second game in a row on Friday and provided an assist for midfielder Juraj Kucka before Martin Skrtel and Hamsik found the net. They are no longer solely relying on the brilliance of Marek Hamsik. They will be even more pleased by their goalscorers. Hamsik is still their most dangerous player by far, but the better odds of 7/2 for Nemec to score make him a worthwhile investment given his current form.

Over the past few years there has been a gathering feeling that the player has outgrown the Ukrainian League and that with the player surpassing the 200-game mark for Dynamo Kyiv Yarmolenko should be heading west to Europes brighter stage. Arguably the most exciting Ukrainian player at the moment, Andriy Yarmolenko is the 26-year-old forward, who can play wide as a winger and fill in numerous positions in attack.
