Prediction Lancaster City - Spennymoor Town

Only four senior players were selected; Joe Atkinson, Nathan Buddle, Jake Hibbs and Gavin Cogdon, with the majority of the side being made up of Under 18 players. Tuesday saw us face Darlington Town in the Durham Challenge Cup, and it was a chance for some of our young players in the academy to get a taste of first team experience. Its been a week dominated by cup football, providing a welcome break after a hectic start to the league season.

The visitors were packed with physically strong and tough players and took a two goal lead into the break, but a spirited second half display saw Blayne Hall pull one back four minutes after the interval. The Brewery Field hosted its second cup fixture of the week just 48 hours later when Moors younger generation were in FA Youth Cup action against Morpeth Town. A late goal finished any hopes of a comeback, but the side gained plaudits against tough opposition.

The striker netted all of Moors four goals including an audacious lob from just inside the opposition half. But, the young lads put in a fantastic display to cruise through to the next stage of the competition, albeit with a little help from Gavin Cogdon. Darlington Town would be no pushovers given their 2nd place status in the Wearside League, and that was showcased early on when Atkinson was forced into a superb save to keep the scores level. Managerial duties were handed over to Andy Lowe, Lewis Dickman and Mark Scott for the evening with youth being the key word.

The main star in the Spennymoor squad is another veteran midfielder, so it will be a battle in the middle on Saturday. Johnson is an experienced player who arguably runs the show for Spennymoor, but will he be able to get past Citys own experienced midfielder in David Norris? For the visiotrs, the problem areas are the forwards. Andrew Johnson has scored 4 goals for Spennymoor so far this season. Adam Boyes and, in-particular, James Roberts have both got 2 goals in their last 3 games. The 23-year-old Roberts is a youth product of Wycombe Wanderers and has also played at Oxford United, Chester and Barnet.

Then as above. At the top of the one-way system, just past Kwik Fit, stay in the right hand lane to loop over move on to the North bound one-way system. From the North, exit the M6 at junction 34 and continue towards Lancaster. Head in to the city centre, moving in to the right hand lane. Turn left at Waterstones bookshop. Move across in to the left hand lane.
