Elina Svitolina (@3.2) vs Serena Williams (@1.36)

Our Prediction:

Serena Williams will win

Elina Svitolina – Serena Williams Match Prediction | 06-09-2019 19:00

She lost her first meeting with Venus in 2017- Rome but bounced back to win two matches in a row in 2017- Rogers Cup and the 2019- French Open. Svitolina also leads the head to head record 2-1 against Venus. Svitolina's biggest plus point is her flexibility as she can change gears from offence to defence or vice-versa as per the match's situation.

The WTA Finals champ has actually won 14 of her last 18 matches, while her last 9 matches have been decided in straight-sets. The Ukrainian ace has also looked great so far at the tournament, and she hasnt actually dropped a set as of yet. Svitolina has recorded a string of successive straight-set victories over Whitney Osuigwe, Venus Williams, Dayana Yastremska, Madison Keys and Johanna Konta. Meanwhile, Elina Svitolina is into a second successive grand slam semi-final, following her run to this stage at Wimbledon earlier in the summer.

Svitolina was struggling, to say the least, heading into the tournament, but shes turned it around at the right time. Halep, who typically plays her worst tennis on grass, finds herself in the semifinals for the second time in her career. Brett:This is a great opportunity for both of these players to get to the final.

She now takes on Strycova, for whom Wimbledon is the best Slam ,result-wise. Harsh:The GOAT has looked scrappy at times, surviving a scare against Juvan and an incredibly tight match against fellow countrywoman Riske. She had a commanding win over Konta but its increasingly difficult to see how she can challenge Serenas superior firepower.

Who benefits the most from Leroy Sane's injury?

The serving was also strong from Svitolina as she won 80% of her service games. During the win, Svitolina impressed with her receiving as she won 45% of her receiving points which allowed her to break her opponents serve on 4 occasions. Elina Svitolina was exceptional in the previous round as she defeated Johanna Konta in straight sets. Elina Svitolina has performed extremely well at Grand Slam tournaments in 2019 as this is her second successive semifinal appearance following her campaign at Wimbledon.

Even with a 62% first serve percentage in her quarterfinal match against Wang Qiang, Serena offered up zero break opportunities. A defensive mastermind capable of getting nearly every ball in play, Svitolina has the ability to make the #8 seed uncomfortable from time to time. And, the Ukrainian will not be afraid of a hard hitter just look at her dismantling of Madison Keys. It will be a challenge for Elina Svitolina to find a way into Serenas game. Can she do it the younger Williams sister? Tracey:Its hard to deny a fit and focused Serena Williams. The #5 seed already knocked out one Williams sister (R2) who was playing well. Her stellar 90% win of first serves in play thwarted any offense attack from the Chinese #18 seed.

Svitolina has been one of the good players on the tour blessed with abundant talent and has every weapon in her game to beat the big names. Longevity has been the hallmark of Venus Williams so far and the fact that she is playing in her 21st US Open is testimony to that. At the age of 39, Venus has continued to inspire the next generation of tennis players.

Svitolina is yet to win a title this year, and clinching the US Open would be a great way to do so. She will face a daunting task against Williams on Thursday. Much of Svitolinas game is based on her defensive expertise. Simona Halep is a similar player to Svitolina, and she beat Williams comprehensively at Wimbledon. She can keep most balls in play, which should be a problem for Williams.

However, Serena has dominated this matchup over the years, and she leads Svitolina 4-1. This should be the toughest match either one has faced so far at this tournament, and we could have an epic on our hands. Elina Svitolina has, however, played her best tennis against Serena on this surface, which includes winning their most recent meeting, while she took their previous hard court grand slam meeting to a final set. While Serena Williams has been playing some excellent stuff so far, Svitolina has also been playing great tennis too. That includes winning both of their previous grand slam meetings.

Formula One: Predicting the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix

The Ukrainian has many of the same qualities as Simona Halep, who so ruthlessly dispatched Williams at Wimbledon. Jim:Williams record against top ten opposition this year isnt exactly stellar, but shell come into this match in great spirits after demolishing Wang Qiang in the quarterfinals. Will confidence be enough against Svitolina? Not necessarily.

We saw tons of great action in the quarterfinals, including Serenas comeback win over Alison Riske. Thursday at Wimbledon means its womens semifinal day. Here are our thoughts. Were here at LWOT to predict both womens semifinal matches for you. Predicting today are myself (Yesh Ginsburg), Brett Margolies, Harsh Bhoot, and Jim Smith. Who will advance to Saturdays final?

Serena took on Chinese number one Qiang Wang in the quarter-finals, and Williams cruised to victory by a 6-1 6-0 score line. Serena has looked incredible for the majority of the tournament, and shes dropped just one set so far. Serena Williams is into the semi-finals at the US Open for the 13th time in her career, and the American ace holds a fantastic 9-3 record in her previous semi-finals here. The former world number one began with a straight-sets win over Maria Sharapova, before fighting back from a set down to beat teenager Caty McNally in round two. Since then, Serena has looked unstoppable, and she picked up straight-set wins over Karolina Muchova and Petra Martic on her way to the quarter-finals.
